Music Star G. Love Scammed Out of $400K by Malicious App: A Stark Warning for Artists!

Musician G. Love, frontman of G. Love & Special Sauce, recently disclosed on social media that he lost his entire Bitcoin retirement savings in a sophisticated scam. The artist revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that he had a “really tough day” after losing his retirement fund due to a hack/scam. This incident occurred when he attempted to transfer his @Ledger hardware wallet to a new computer and inadvertently downloaded a malicious Ledger application from the @Apple store.

G. Love explicitly stated, “All my BTC gone in an instant.” He later quantified his loss, writing, “I lost 5.9 BTC all I had for ten years I worked on this f—k be careful out there.” At the time of his revelation, 5.9 Bitcoin was valued at approximately $439,000. He also addressed accusations of fabricating the story, stating, “It’s just hard to get scammed. F—k all yall haters that called me a liar.”

Reflecting on his experience, G. Love, who has been involved in the cryptocurrency space since 2017, acknowledged his own fault, remarking, “I been in the crypto circus since 2017. Today they caught me off guard. It was my own damn fault for not being more diligent. But let it serve as a warning. There’s so many scams.” He further expressed his disappointment, saying, “It sucks so bad that there are so many bad actors out there … I truly believe in crypto and I have for almost 10 years, but I’ve gotten f—ked over quite a bit now.”

Investigations suggest that the stolen Bitcoin was laundered through KuCoin, a prominent cryptocurrency trading platform. KuCoin’s official account responded to G. Love on X, stating, “We have taken temporary restraining measures and temporarily frozen the suspicious account for 7 days,” for which the musician expressed his gratitude. In response to the incident and G. Love’s public posts, Apple has removed the fraudulent Ledger application from its App Store and terminated the developer’s account. Apple maintains that its store policy prohibits applications designed to scam users, and it provides an option for users to report suspicious apps or developers on its website.

Beyond his recent financial ordeal, G. Love is also known for his musical career. His band, G. Love & Special Sauce, has achieved notable success, with nine albums charting on the Billboard 200. His 2011 LP, “Fixin’ to Die,” notably reached No. 8 on the Top Rock Albums ranking. Most recently, in November of the past year, G. Love & Secret Sauce released their latest full-length album titled “Ode to R.L.”
