Morocco Steals Spotlight: Named European Film Market's 2026 Country in Focus!

Morocco has officially been selected as the Country in Focus for the upcoming European Film Market (EFM), scheduled to take place from February 12–18, 2026, as part of the 76th Berlin International Film Festival. This recognition underscores Morocco’s expanding presence and growing influence within the international film industry.
According to a statement from the EFM, the selection was made in acknowledgment of Morocco’s dynamic film scene, which has seen remarkable growth in both domestic and international productions over the past decade. The nation’s film industry has become a key destination for global filmmakers, thanks to its rich cultural heritage, cinematic landscapes, and highly skilled local crews.
The Moroccan Cinema Center (CCM), which oversees film production and promotion in the country, welcomed the announcement with enthusiasm, calling it “a proud moment for Moroccan cinema and a recognition of years of dedicated artistic evolution.” The EFM will feature Moroccan filmmakers, producers, and industry stakeholders across a series of panels, screenings, and networking sessions designed to strengthen partnerships between Morocco and other global markets.
In recent years, Morocco has hosted several major international productions, including “Gladiator II,” “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” and “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum,” solidifying its reputation as a versatile filming destination. Additionally, Moroccan directors such as Faouzi Bensaïdi, Maryam Touzani, and Nabil Ayouch have earned acclaim at international festivals like Cannes and Venice for their thought-provoking works that explore themes of identity, resilience, and modernity.
EFM Director Dennis Ruh noted that Morocco’s selection aligns with the market’s mission to highlight nations that demonstrate both cultural richness and industry innovation. “Morocco’s combination of creative energy, technical capability, and unique storytelling traditions makes it one of the most exciting cinematic landscapes in the world today,” Ruh stated.
As anticipation builds toward the 2026 event, Morocco’s spotlight at the European Film Market is expected to open new opportunities for co-productions, investment, and international distribution — further propelling the country’s ascent as a cinematic powerhouse bridging Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
