Military Forces Thwart ISWAP Attack on Borno Base, Local Security Reinforced

Troops operating under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have demonstrated significant success in combating insurgency and criminality across Nigeria's North-East and other affected regions, involving both fierce defensive actions and proactive search-and-rescue missions. These operations aim to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their logistics channels, and restore overall security.

In a notable incident, OPHK troops successfully repelled an attempted attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Logomani in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State. The insurgents, attempting to overrun the military position, briefly breached a section of the base's defensive perimeter. However, the resilient troops regrouped swiftly and launched a decisive counter-offensive, killing several insurgents. Regrettably, one gallant soldier paid the ultimate price, and two gun trucks along with some combat enablers sustained damage during the intense engagement. According to Captain Mohammed Goni, the Media Information Officer of OPHK, the situation was quickly brought under control with the deployment of additional reinforcements, ensuring the area remained firmly secured.

Beyond defensive operations, OPHK forces have also been actively involved in humanitarian and anti-crime efforts. Troops from the 115 Task Force Battalion, for instance, conducted a successful search-and-rescue operation in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, leading to the rescue of two kidnap victims. The rescued individuals were promptly evacuated to a secure location, where they received necessary medical attention and psychosocial support. During this operation, troops also recovered N1.2 million, suspected to be proceeds from criminal activities, alongside various food items and logistics materials believed to have been used to support terrorist operations.

In another significant development, six suspected ISWAP fighters and their families voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 192 Battalion, Sector 1, OPHK. This group had fled terrorist enclaves located in Guduf Bubayagwa and Chikide areas within the Mandara mountains of Gwoza Local Government Area. Upon their surrender, military personnel recovered N1.54 million in cash and two mobile phones, indicating the disrupted financial and communication networks of the insurgent groups.

Furthermore, intelligence-driven operations led to the arrest of suspected criminal elements and logistics suppliers across parts of Adamawa and Borno states. These arrests resulted in the recovery of a cache of weapons, ammunition, vehicles, cash, and other vital materials directly linked to terrorist activities, effectively crippling their supply lines.

The scope of security operations extended to Zamfara State, where security forces successfully rescued an abducted Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staff member. In conjunction with this rescue, hundreds of rustled cattle were recovered following targeted operations against bandits in Gummi, Talata Mafara, and Gusau Local Government Areas. The Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, A.M. Bello, reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to sustained operations against criminal groups and urged local residents to continue providing credible intelligence to aid these efforts. These ongoing, multi-faceted operations underscore the military's relentless drive to ensure peace and stability across all affected regions.
