Massive Ripple Unlock: 1 Billion XRP Released from Escrow This November

Ripple has initiated its scheduled November escrow unlock, injecting 1 billion XRP tokens into circulation. This activity was reported by the blockchain data tracker Whale Alert, which identified two distinct transactions. Specifically, 500,000,000 XRP, valued at approximately $626,430,089 USD at the time, was unlocked in the early hours of November 1, followed by a second unlock of another 500,000,000 XRP, totaling 1 billion XRP released.

These monthly unlocks are an integral part of Ripple's strategy to enhance transparency and predictability regarding the distribution of XRP. The company initially placed 55 billion XRP into an escrow account, with a plan to release it systematically over time to manage the overall supply entering the market. However, it's important to note that the entirety of the unlocked 1 billion XRP does not necessarily remain in active circulation. Historically, Ripple has returned a substantial portion, often around 700 million XRP, back to escrow. The remaining portion is utilized to support operational requirements, ensure market liquidity, and facilitate various ecosystem-related activities.

October proved to be a pivotal month for both Ripple and the broader XRP ecosystem. This period was marked by a series of significant announcements and critical updates pertaining to the XRP Ledger. Key events included the hosting of two major conferences: Swell and the XRP Seoul events. Additionally, the RLUSD was successfully listed on Coinbase in October. This listing now enables both retail and institutional clients to trade and manage RLUSD through Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange, and the Coinbase Retail app, offering a seamless 1:1 conversion process from U.S. dollars and other supported USD-denominated stablecoins into RLUSD.

Looking ahead, the XRP Ledger is poised to undergo crucial fixes and improvements with the impending activation of the fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment in November. According to data from XRPScan, this amendment began its two-week activation window on October 21, 2026, following an initial reset in voting procedures. The earliest anticipated activation date for fixCleanup3_4_0 is set for November 4, 2026, at 2:46 PM UTC. For the amendment to successfully activate, validator support must consistently remain above an 80% threshold. Should support drop to 80% or below even once, the amendment will be rejected, and the 14-day timer for activation will restart.

The fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment is a comprehensive package of fixes designed to address various functionalities within the XRP Ledger. These include improvements for Single Asset Vaults, the Lending Protocol, Automated Market Makers (AMMs), the permissioned DEX, trust lines, Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), Merkle Patricia Tries (MPTs), Escrow, Sponsorship, transaction signing, and permission delegation. This amendment is particularly critical for the full implementation of Permission Delegation, which went live in October. Without the activation of fixCleanup3_4_0, users would be unable to delegate the specific 'PaymentBurn' granular permission, highlighting its essential role in enhancing the Ledger's capabilities and user control.
