Kenya Works to Restore Flight Operations Amid Aviation Worker Strike
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority is actively addressing flight backlogs at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport following a workers’ strike, prioritizing a structured recovery plan to resume normal schedules as quickly as possible.
KCAA emphasized that all aircraft movements continue under strict international safety standards, urging passengers to confirm flight details directly with their airlines before traveling.
The strike, led by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU), stems from grievances over working conditions, delayed salaries, and sector restructuring, leaving travelers stranded and disrupting operations at airports including Kisumu International.
Local businesses and taxi operators have reported losses due to reduced passenger traffic, highlighting the wider economic impact of the industrial action on airport-dependent communities and services.
Kenya Airways advised passengers to monitor flight updates via its official website, mobile app, and other channels, stressing flexibility as schedules may be adjusted to manage delays and ensure safety.
Both KCAA and Kenya Airways confirmed collaboration with aviation partners to restore full operations efficiently while addressing the underlying tensions that continue to affect travelers and the broader aviation sector.
