James Gunn Teases Who Will Play Wonder Woman in the DCU: "She'd Be Great!"

Published 7 hours ago3 minute read

Many DC characters are seeking silver-screen redemption in the rebooted DCU. The Man of Steel is up first, with Superman releasing in theaters on July 11, and several other prominent characters, including Batman (Brave and the Bold), are confirmed to get standalone movies in the future. was notably absent from 's initial "Gods & Monsters" announcement slate, but the iconic Amazon is finally getting a standalone movie within the DCU. Since the announcement, fans have been desperately trying to work out who will be playing the next Wonder Woman on the big screen, and have even taken to stalking Gunn's social media for clues. The strongest contender is Hit Man and Andor star Adria Arjona, and Gunn recently said exactly what fans want to hear about the (potentially) new Wonder Woman.

James Gunn recently spoke to Jake's Takes to promote Superman, and the writer/director was asked about the DCU's new Wonder Woman, as well as the extreme lengths fans go to to work out who might be playing the iconic Amazon. When asked what the percentage chance of someone he follows on Instagram being Wonder Woman is, the director joked, "50%." Gunn is more than aware of fans' dedication to deducing the identity of the DCU's Wonder Woman (not that they've officially been cast yet).

With the DCU in need of a new Wonder Woman, here are the top 10 picks to take over the superhero role from Gal Gadot.

As previously mentioned, Adria Arjona is the fan favorite to play Diana Prince in the DCU. "I followed Adria Arjona on Instagram," his actual answer began, aware of the online discourse. "But everyone came out [and said], 'You just followed her. That means she's Wonder Woman.' She'd be a great Wonder Woman, by the way. But she was in a movie that I made seven years ago. We've been friends and have known each other since that time. So I followed her then, I didn't just follow her now."

While Brave and the Bold has received very few updates from DC Studios, James Gunn has confirmed that Batman already exists in the rebooted cinematic universe. However, the character we know the least about from DC Comics' Trinity (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman) is 'ole WW. It's only been a few weeks since Diana Prince was confirmed to be receiving a standalone movie, so details are expectedly scarce.

Pretty much all fans know about the DCU's Wonder Woman project is that it's in the works. "We're working on Wonder Woman," Gunn revealed in June. "Wonder Woman's being written right now." Casting and script updates still seem like they're a ways away. As well as the Wonder Woman standalone project, which could still be a movie or a series at this stage, the Themysciran are also starring in a new project. Paradise Lost is an upcoming DC Studios HBO series set on the Amazonian island.
