Grizzlies Make History with Record-Tying 29 Threes, Still Fall to Cavaliers

Nine different Grizzlies players contributed to the record-tying effort, showcasing a collective proficiency from deep. The team shot an impressive 49.2% (29-for-59) from three-point range, contrasting with a 45.7% (16-for-35) clip from inside the arc. This record had previously been shared by two other teams: the Milwaukee Bucks, who achieved 29 threes in a 144-97 victory over Miami on December 29, 2020, and the Boston Celtics, who equaled the feat in a 132-109 win against the New York Knicks on October 22, 2024.

Memphis coach Tuomas Iisalo expressed pride in his team's performance despite the outcome. "I think we can be pretty proud of how we played with this group today on the court," Iisalo commented. "Guys wanted to go for it in the end, and we were all for it. Unfortunately couldn't set a singular record, but tied it. Nonetheless, very proud of our group."

Remarkably, the Grizzlies' 29 three-pointers now stand as the most ever made in an NBA loss, according to ESPN Research. This surpasses the previous record of 27 threes in a loss, held by the Golden State Warriors in 2024. The Grizzlies' three-point distribution throughout the game saw them make 10 in the first quarter, three in the second, six in the third, and 10 in the final period. In comparison, the Cleveland Cavaliers made 12 of their 32 attempts from three-point range.

Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson acknowledged the Grizzlies' exceptional shooting, stating, "Incredible shooting performance by the Grizzlies. Give them credit. They shot the heck out of the ball." Individually, Memphis reserves Adama Bal and Dariq Whitehead each led the team with six three-pointers. Lucas Williamson contributed five makes from 12 attempts, while Olivier-Maxence Prosper was highly efficient, hitting four of his five three-point attempts.
