Fontaines D.C. Unleashes Fiery New Single & Teases Highly Anticipated Album!
Fontaines D.C. has announced their fifth album, Dopamine Chamber, due October 16, alongside the release of its lead single, “Marianne.” The new record, produced by James Ford, promises a darker, electronic-infused sound. This release follows their critically acclaimed album Romance and precedes their headline performance at Reading & Leeds Festival.
Fontaines D.C., the acclaimed Dublin-formed band, has officially announced their highly anticipated fifth album, titled Dopamine Chamber, which is set to be released on October 16 via XL Recordings. This exciting news coincides with the launch of the album's powerful lead single, “Marianne.” Fans got their first taste of “Marianne” during a headline performance at the Baluarte de la Candelaria venue in Cadiz, Spain, on August 8, where it made its live debut.
Dopamine Chamber was produced by the accomplished James Ford, a frequent collaborator who also helmed the production for the band’s two preceding albums, Skinty Fia and Romance. The recording process for the new album spanned various locations, taking place in London, the picturesque English countryside, and Palermo. The band is embracing a noticeable sonic shift, venturing into a darker, electronically-infused sound. Guitarist Conor Curley commented on this evolution, stating that the band is actively “trying to find stuff that pointed into the future,” indicating a deliberate move towards new influences and a forward-thinking artistic direction.
The lead single, “Marianne,” draws inspiration from contemporary culture, with the band revealing it was partly influenced by the 2024 Netflix thriller series Ripley. Starring Adam Scott, this series is a modern adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s classic novel, The Talented Mr. Ripley, suggesting a nuanced and potentially complex narrative behind the track.
Dopamine Chamber adds to Fontaines D.C.'s impressive discography, following their previous acclaimed releases: Dogrel (2019), A Hero’s Death (2020), Skinty Fia (2022), and Romance (2024). Their last album, Romance, achieved significant critical and commercial success, earning a nomination for the prestigious Mercury Prize and securing the band the 2025 BRIT award for International Group. It also peaked at No. 2 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart and marked their first entry onto the Billboard 200, reaching No. 97, underscoring their growing international appeal.
Since their formation in 2014 after meeting at a music college in the Irish capital, the five-piece group has rapidly ascended to become one of the most celebrated rock bands of the last decade. They have consistently garnered critical acclaim, cultivated a rapidly expanding audience, and transitioned to headlining arena-sized shows, cementing their status as a major force in contemporary music.
Fontaines D.C. has also received multiple Grammy Award nominations throughout their career, including a nod for Best Rock Album for A Hero’s Death at the 2021 ceremony. Their success continued with two additional nominations in 2025 for Romance (Best Rock Album) and the single “Starburster” (Best Alternative Music Performance). Looking ahead, the band is set to headline the prominent Reading & Leeds Festival on August 30, sharing the top billing with other major artists such as Charli XCX, RAYE, Dave, Florence + The Machine, and Chase & Status.
