El-Rufai Controversial Absence as Kaduna ADC Primaries Hold
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) successfully conducted its presidential, governorship, and State House of Assembly primary elections in Kaduna State, marked by high voter turnout and peaceful proceedings. Former governor Nasir El-Rufai was notably absent due to detention by the ICPC over alleged financial misconduct, which he denies, as the party anticipates results soon.Members of the African Democratic Congress in Kaduna State turned out in large numbers on Monday for the party’s presidential, governorship, and State House of Assembly primaries, with reports indicating that the exercise was conducted peacefully across the state.
Party supporters participated actively in the voting process, which proceeded without any recorded incidents of violence or disruption.
The most notable development, however, was the absence of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, widely regarded as one of the ADC’s most influential figures in the state.
El-Rufai did not participate in the primaries due to his ongoing detention by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over allegations of financial misconduct, claims he has continued to deny.
Speaking on the exercise, ADC State Publicity Secretary-elect Darius Kurah described the primaries as smooth and orderly across Kaduna. Kurah said party members freely voted for candidates of their choice and noted that feedback from various local government areas showed no major issues throughout the process.
He added that the collation and announcement of results were expected to be completed between Monday evening and the following afternoon.
