DStv is set to introduce a major new package structure this month, highlighted by a R399 dedicated sports package. This overhaul, rumored to launch on September 17, 2026, follows Canal+'s acquisition of MultiChoice and aims to offer more affordable, demand-driven tiers. New packages will include Starter, Select, Sports, Movies & Series, and a comprehensive Premium option.
DStv is reportedly rolling out a significant new package structure this month, featuring a key addition: a dedicated sports package priced at R399 per month. This strategic move follows the recent acquisition of MultiChoice, the South African media giant behind DStv, SuperSport, and M-Net, by the French media company Canal+.
The impending announcement of these new packages was seemingly confirmed in a rather unconventional manner. During a live broadcast of the Springboks vs All Blacks match on DStv’s SuperSport channel, spectators at the FNB Stadium were seen holding placards that declared: “Rumours are true. 17 September 2026.” This public display was widely interpreted as an official hint towards an imminent overhaul of DStv's offerings.
According to leaked information that surfaced earlier this week, the major revamp of DStv’s package lineup is expected to launch as early as September 17, 2026. The new structure aims to group packages into more affordable categories, designed to align with public demand. The introduction of the R399 sports package stands out as a primary drawcard for subscribers.
The new package tiers include 'Starter' and 'Select' options. The 'Starter' package, priced at R99, offers 85 channels encompassing basic entertainment, local shows, news, and some sports content. Moving up, the 'Select' package, at R299, expands to 100 channels, providing more entertainment, local channels, kids’ content, and a broader range of sports.
For sports enthusiasts, the standalone 'Sports' package at R399 will feature 115 channels, delivering extensive coverage of Premier League and UEFA football, local rugby, select URC matches, cricket, UFC, WWE, alongside some general entertainment. Additionally, a 'Movies & Series' package, priced at R500, offers 115 channels including premium content from M-Net, M-Net Movies+, kykNET, BBC Earth, Studio Universal, Discovery, and various other entertainment channels.
The most comprehensive offering, the 'Premium' package, will be available for R799. This top-tier option provides access to 130 channels, including all SuperSport channels. Subscribers to the Premium package will enjoy extensive coverage of major sports events such as Springboks rugby, Proteas cricket, tennis, golf, Formula One, and MotoGP, making it the ultimate choice for a full entertainment and sports experience.
