Cross-Border Payment Giants TerraPay & TPBank Forge Real-Time Alliance
TerraPay has partnered with Vietnam's TPBank to enable real-time outbound cross-border payments for its customers to over 156 countries. This collaboration leverages TerraPay's global network, offering a strategic solution for TPBank amidst Vietnam's booming digital payments landscape and rising customer expectations for swift international transfers.TerraPay, a London-headquartered payments infrastructure provider, has officially partnered with Vietnam’s TPBank to introduce real-time outbound cross-border payment capabilities for the bank’s customers. Announced on July 21, 2026, and duly notified to the State Bank of Vietnam, this collaboration enables TPBank users to send funds to bank accounts and mobile wallets in over 156 countries and territories globally.
The strategic rationale behind this partnership is clear: TPBank can now access TerraPay’s extensive global network through a single integration. This approach significantly streamlines operations by circumventing the time and expense typically associated with establishing and managing numerous individual bilateral correspondent relationships, while still maintaining its existing SWIFT connectivity. All incoming and outgoing remittance flows under this new system will strictly adhere to Vietnam’s prevailing foreign exchange controls and anti-money laundering regulations.
This initiative comes at a time of remarkable growth and dynamism within Vietnam's digital payments ecosystem. The nation recorded an impressive 17.7 billion non-cash transactions in 2024, marking a substantial 56% increase year-on-year. This momentum continued into 2025, with non-cash transactions already nearing 18 billion by the first nine months, surpassing the total for the entire previous year. The rapid domestic digitalization has elevated customer expectations, creating a pressing demand for cross-border payment solutions that mirror the speed and ease of in-country transfers—a challenge banks across Southeast Asia are increasingly pressured to address.
Nguyen Viet Anh, deputy CEO in charge of strategy and banking governance at TPBank, emphasized the benefits, stating that partnering with TerraPay allows the bank to quickly expand its international payment offerings without the overhead of multiple bilateral relationships or significant technological investment. This move underscores TPBank's commitment to delivering a digital-first banking experience to its clientele.
TerraPay’s business model, which offers a single API connection to a diverse multi-rail network encompassing wallets, bank accounts, and cards, operates within a competitive landscape that includes prominent players like Visa Direct, Mastercard Move, and Thunes. TerraPay distinguishes itself through its deep network presence in emerging market corridors, particularly across Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, where correspondent banking gaps are most pronounced. For TPBank, this arrangement also signifies a strategic ‘build-versus-buy’ decision. Unlike Vietnam’s major state-owned banks, which historically developed international payment capabilities through capital-intensive bilateral correspondent networks, digitally focused private-sector banks like TPBank are increasingly opting for infrastructure partnerships to accelerate market entry for new corridors.
The regulatory notification to the State Bank of Vietnam is a critical aspect, given Vietnam's stringent foreign exchange controls and the supervised framework under which commercial banks' cross-border payment products must operate. TerraPay’s strong emphasis on compliance infrastructure, evidenced by its regulation across multiple markets, serves as a vital credential in this context. Ani Sane, co-Founder and chief business officer at TerraPay, reiterated that the partnership provides TPBank with
