Celebrity Showdown: Doris Ogala Jailed Over Cyberbullying Saga

Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has been ordered to be remanded at the Ikoyi correctional centre in Lagos by a federal high court. The order, issued by Justice Akintayo Aluko, will hold pending the hearing of her bail application. Ogala was arraigned on Wednesday to face a four-count charge, which includes allegations of publishing personal materials without consent, spreading false information, cyberbullying, and attempted extortion. These charges were brought against her by Chris Okafor, the founder of the Mountain of Liberty and Miracle Ministry.

The legal proceedings had previously experienced delays, stalling for two consecutive sittings due to Ogala's absence from court. During Wednesday's arraignment, the actress entered a plea of not guilty to all four counts. Tolulope Mokolu, the prosecuting counsel, urged the court to remand Ogala, stating that he required time to review and respond to her bail application, which he had just received.

Conversely, the defence counsel, N. C. Atulomah, vigorously opposed the request for remand. Atulomah requested the court to release his client on bail, emphasizing that Ogala is a governorship candidate representing a political party in Abia state. He also provided an assurance to the court that she would be present at the subsequent hearing.

In his ruling, Justice Akintayo Aluko determined that the defence had not presented sufficient grounds at that moment to justify Ogala's immediate release on bail. Consequently, he ordered her remand in the Nigerian correctional centre but also mandated an accelerated hearing of her bail application. The case was then adjourned until October 30 for the bail application hearing.

Proceedings later took a chaotic turn when the actress reportedly insisted on addressing the court, despite attempts by her lawyer and others present to calm her. She was heard shouting, alleging, “I must talk, this is Nigeria, they are using government power to oppress me. My boyfriend is using government power to oppress me.” The situation escalated to the point where the presiding judge eventually rose for the day as the commotion became uncontrollable.

Following her court appearance, Doris Ogala took to Instagram to express her views, alleging a conspiracy behind her remand. In a post, she claimed that Jerry Eze, Suleman Johnson, Chris Okafor, and the Abia state governor, Alex Otti, were all involved and responsible for her legal predicament. Ogala stated that these individuals were afraid of secrets she possessed, writing, “Jerry Eze, Suleman Johnson and Chris Okafor are responsible for my remand. Alex Oti is fully behind my remand as well. They are afraid of their secret, I know. All of them are responsible, believe me.”
