Bloody Victory: Nigerian Military Eliminates Over 100 Terrorists, Seizes Heavily Armed APC

Security forces in Zamfara State have reportedly achieved significant successes in operations against suspected bandits and terrorists, including a counter-ambush operation that allegedly resulted in the deaths of over 100 terrorists and the recovery of an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) loaded with motorcycles. This development was disclosed by journalist Bakatsine, known for reporting on conflict and insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West, via a post on X on Thursday. The recovered APC, which was reportedly being used to transport motorcycles, arrived in Gummi town following the operation against the armed groups.

These recent triumphs follow coordinated operations conducted across Zamfara State the previous day, where security forces successfully rescued an abducted official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and thwarted multiple bandit attacks. According to Bakatsine, police accounts indicated that heavily armed bandits, riding approximately 50 motorcycles, had attacked communities in Talata Mafara. During these attacks, the bandits rustled hundreds of cattle and abducted Aliyu Mohammed, an INEC official, after he had completed transporting NECO examination materials to Sokoto. Fortunately, his Toyota Hilux vehicle and the examination papers were later recovered intact.

Police operatives from the Victim and Crime Response Unit (VCRU), working in conjunction with the military, successfully tracked the bandits to the Gando Forest. There, they engaged the attackers, leading to the rescue of the abducted INEC official, Aliyu Mohammed, and another victim, both unharmed. Furthermore, hundreds of stolen cattle were also recovered during the operation, underscoring the effectiveness of the security forces' coordinated efforts in combating insecurity in the region.
