Baba Jamal's Triumphant Return to Ghana's Parliament Ignites Ayawaso East Hopes

Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament-elect for Ayawaso East, has expressed profound gratitude and renewed determination following his decisive victory in the recent by-election. He secured 10,884 votes, comfortably defeating his closest contender, Yussif Ali Baba of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 4,009 votes. Moments after being declared the winner, Baba Jamal was quick to emphasize that this triumph was not merely a personal achievement but a collective mandate from the good people of Ayawaso East. He thanked his constituents for their unwavering confidence in electing him as their parliamentary candidate-elect.
A deeply personal aspect of his victory was its dedication to his 93-year-old mother, Mimi. Baba Jamal recounted her long-standing promise to support him and ensure his return to Parliament, stating, "Today, her vision and wish have come true." He offered thanks to the Almighty Allah for her life and for the realization of this dream. He also acknowledged the significant personal sacrifice and endurance shown by his immediate family, extending heartfelt appreciation to his wife and children for their steadfast support throughout his journey back to Parliament.
Beyond his family, Baba Jamal recognized the extensive support network that contributed to his success. He conveyed special thanks to the national executives of the NDC, including the chairman and General Secretary, as well as the Greater Accra regional executives and the Ayawaso East constituency executives. He also specifically mentioned his people from Akwatia, who came in significant numbers to support his parliamentary project.
A notable highlight of his post-victory address was his special appreciation for President John Mahama. Baba Jamal thanked the President for finding him worthy to serve in Nigeria, an experience he credits with strengthening his resolve and sharpening his expertise. He asserted that the few months spent in Nigeria significantly enhanced his experience, which he intends to leverage in Parliament to serve Ghana more effectively.
Looking to the future, Baba Jamal delivered an emphatic promise to his constituents, declaring that the "resetting of Ayawaso East starts now." He assured the people that his return to Parliament marks the beginning of a comprehensive effort to reshape the constituency, ensuring that it receives what it truly deserves. He also extended gratitude to the media for their sustained coverage throughout his campaign, acknowledging their diligent work, often late into the night. He signalled a desire for a collaborative partnership with the press moving forward, stating, "We are going to work together," and urged them to offer corrections in a professional and proper manner. With his parliamentary return secured, Baba Jamal is poised to bring renewed experience, deep gratitude, and a resolute commitment to "reset" Ayawaso East.
