The 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) concluded in a night of historic triumphs and emotional moments at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos. Hosted by the dynamic duo of Bovi Ugboma and Nomzamo Mbatha, the prestigious ceremony celebrated the finest talents in African film and television across 32 categories, marking a significant milestone in the continent's entertainment landscape.

The undisputed highlight of the evening was Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, who etched her name in AMVCA history by achieving a rare double-win, securing both Best Lead Actress and Best Supporting Actress in the same year. She was recognized as Best Lead Actress for her powerful performance in “The Serpent’s Gift,” an Igbo-language drama directed by Kayode Kasum. This film, exploring themes of Eastern Nigerian heritage and family inheritance, garnered praise for Ejiofor-Suleiman’s emotional intensity and depth in her portrayal of the lead character. Earlier in the ceremony, she had already claimed the Best Supporting Actress award for her compelling role as Adamma in “The Herd,” directed by Daniel Etim Effiong. In this film, she portrayed the resilient wife of a kidnapped man, navigating financial secrets and uncooperative family members to raise a ransom, a performance that triumphed over a highly competitive field. Ejiofor-Suleiman graced the red carpet in a shimmering emerald green floor-length gown adorned with intricate 3D butterfly accents, truly embodying her night of victory.

“My Father’s Shadow” emerged as the night's biggest film winner, taking home the coveted Best Movie award. Directed by Akinola Davies Jr., the film dominated the 12th AMVCA with five total wins, extending its remarkable global recognition achieved through previous victories at esteemed festivals and awards such as Cannes, BAFTA, and the Gotham Awards.
