This prestigious event served as a crucial qualifier for the 2026 World Para Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, drawing top competitors from across the continent, including Algeria, Cameroon, and Côte d’Ivoire, alongside the dominant host nation Egypt and Nigeria.

Nigeria emerged slightly ahead in the medal standings, securing a total of six gold medals. Among the standout performances, 2024 Paralympics bronze medallist Ogunkunle Isau led the charge, achieving gold in the Men’s Singles Classes 4–5. Nigeria’s gold tally was further bolstered by victories from Adesope Abiola Wali, Farinloye Victor, and Lawal Kehinde in their respective singles categories. The nation’s strength in doubles was also evident, with Isau partnering with Oputa Kate to win the Mixed Doubles Class 10 title, while the duo of Adesope Abiola Wali and Lawal Kehinde claimed first place in the Mixed Doubles Classes 14–20 category.

Egypt showcased its formidable talent by winning five gold medals. The host nation’s campaign was marked by several dominant singles triumphs. Ramadan Khaled secured gold in the Men’s Singles Classes 1–3, overcoming compatriot Elmahsy Ahmed in the final. Youssef Sayed delivered a commanding performance to win the Men’s Singles Classes 6–7 against Abdelmoneim Abousteit. Additional gold medals for Egypt came from Abdelwahab Abdelrahman and Mahmoud Faiza in the Women’s Classes 1–5. Egypt’s doubles prowess was highlighted by Youssef Sayed and Abdelwahab Abdelrahman, who clinched the Men’s Doubles Class MD18 title after a hard-fought 3–2 battle against Nigeria’s Adesope Abiola Wali and Agunbiade Tajudeen on the final day.

Beyond the top two, Côte d’Ivoire also made a significant impression, with Bayala Jean Pierre earning a spirited silver medal in the singles, marking a notable achievement for his country.

Tournament Director Amr Fahmy hailed the championships as a resounding success, noting the continuously improving level of competition and increasing athlete participation. He expressed optimism for future editions, hoping for even greater involvement to enhance the event’s growth and stature. By the close of the competition, eight qualification slots for the Bangkok 2026 World Para Championships were secured directly, with additional opportunities for athletes to qualify through African rankings in 2026, in line with ITTF rules to ensure broad continental representation.
