Africa-Asia Skies Align: Uganda Airlines & Air India Forge Landmark Connectivity Deal

Uganda Airlines has embarked on a significant expansion of its global footprint by entering into a strategic interline partnership with Air India, one of Asia’s prominent carriers. This landmark agreement, officially unveiled on September 17, 2025, in Entebbe and effective from August 25, 2025, is poised to revolutionize travel opportunities for passengers traversing between the African continent and the bustling Indian subcontinent.
The core benefit of this collaboration is the provision of seamless connectivity. Travelers departing from Entebbe International Airport will now have effortless access to an extensive network of over 25 destinations across India and beyond, leveraging Air India’s vast domestic and international reach. Key Indian cities such as Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Varanasi are among those now easily accessible to Uganda Airlines’ clientele. This partnership is meticulously designed to enhance convenience, offer greater flexibility, and provide a broader spectrum of travel choices for both business and leisure travelers journeying between the two continents.
For the sub-Saharan African travel sector, this development carries profound significance. The new interline arrangement strategically positions Uganda as an even stronger regional aviation hub. It will facilitate smoother and more efficient connections for passengers originating from various parts of Africa, bound for India, and subsequently onwards to wider Asia, the Middle East, and other international destinations. This increased connectivity is anticipated to stimulate growth not only in tourism but also in critical sectors such as trade, education, and medical travel, areas that have witnessed a steady surge in demand between these regions.
Jenifer Bamuturaki, the CEO of Uganda Airlines, underscored the importance of the agreement, stating that it “significantly expands Uganda Airlines’ global footprint, offering its customers convenient access to Air India’s vast network.” This initiative aligns perfectly with Uganda Airlines’ broader strategy to cultivate and strengthen its international partnerships, aiming to deliver enhanced value to its customers. The airline continues to boast one of Africa’s youngest and most modern fleets, comprising efficient CRJ900LR regional jets and advanced Airbus A330-800 widebody aircraft.
Furthermore, this partnership presents new avenues for African travel professionals. It empowers them to create and promote diverse multi-destination itineraries, streamline ticketing processes, and ultimately offer clients a more integrated and fulfilling travel experience. The interline deal is also expected to invigorate competition and foster innovation within the dynamic Africa–Asia travel corridor, potentially inspiring other carriers to explore similar collaborative ventures.
As Uganda Airlines and Air India embark on this promising new chapter, the African travel industry stands to reap substantial benefits through augmented connectivity, increased passenger flows, and the potential for deeper commercial and cultural ties between two of the world’s fastest-growing regions. This strategic alliance unequivocally signals Africa’s aviation sector’s readiness to assume a more prominent and influential role in global travel, with Uganda Airlines leading the charge in this exciting evolution.
