Zimbabwe's Roads Turn Deadly: Bus Crash Horror

A tragic bus accident occurred on Thursday evening along the Gweru-Zvishavane road, specifically at the 40-kilometre peg within the perilous Boterekwa escarpment, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuries to 22 others. The incident, which took place at approximately 1800 hours, involved a bus carrying 61 passengers that was traveling towards Zvishavane.

According to Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the driver of the bus allegedly lost control of the vehicle while navigating a descent along the treacherous stretch of road. The bus subsequently veered off the road to the left, overturned, and came to rest on its side. Two passengers succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the accident.

Emergency services transported the injured individuals, including the bus driver, to a hospital for urgent medical treatment. The bodies of the deceased victims were conveyed to Shurugwi District Hospital, where post-mortem examinations are scheduled to be conducted.

The ZRP has confirmed that comprehensive investigations are currently underway to ascertain the precise cause of this fatal accident. In light of this incident, police have issued a stern appeal to all motorists, urging them to exercise extreme caution, particularly when driving on downhill sections of roads. Additionally, they emphasized the critical importance of ensuring that all vehicles are thoroughly roadworthy before embarking on any long-distance journeys.
