WNBA Blockbuster: Aces Set to Secure Star Jewell Loyd on Three-Year Deal
Jewell Loyd, a key contributor to the Las Vegas Aces' championship success, is in the final stages of a three-year deal to continue her tenure with the team. This significant re-signing will help maintain the core of the reigning champions, coming after Loyd's impactful first season with the Aces in 2025, during which she was instrumental in their championship run following her trade from the Seattle Storm.
In her debut season with Las Vegas, Loyd seamlessly transitioned into a new role off the bench, a first in her career, and flourished. The 5-foot-11 guard averaged 11.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, demonstrating her versatility and crucial offensive and defensive contributions to the team's title victory.
Before joining the Aces, Loyd spent her entire career with the Seattle Storm, where she achieved remarkable success, including winning WNBA titles in 2018 and 2020. Her individual achievements underscore her status as one of the WNBA's elite talents. She led the league in scoring in 2023, is a six-time All-Star, a three-time All-WNBA selection, and earned the 2023 All-Star Game MVP award. Loyd, who was drafted No. 1 overall in 2015 out of Notre Dame, has also secured two Olympic gold medals while representing USA Basketball.
Loyd's decision to re-sign aligns with the Las Vegas Aces' broader strategy to retain their championship-winning roster. This move follows the recent agreement with four-time All-Star Jackie Young on a one-year, $1.19 million max contract. Furthermore, four-time MVP A'ja Wilson has also expressed her intent to re-sign with the Las Vegas franchise, signaling a strong commitment to maintaining a formidable lineup for upcoming seasons.
