Tragic Stockport Mum Murder: Suspects Face Extended Questioning

A major murder investigation is underway in Sheffield following the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Shanice Brookes, a mum-of-one, during a Bank Holiday Monday night out. Described by police as an 'innocent bystander', Shanice suffered serious injuries after being shot outside One Four One bar on West Street around 2:45 AM on May 25, and was tragically pronounced dead shortly after. This senseless incident has prompted a widespread appeal for information to apprehend those responsible.

In the immediate aftermath, three suspects were initially arrested on suspicion of murder. These included a 30-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman from Stockport, along with another 30-year-old man from Sheffield. South Yorkshire Police confirmed that detectives have been granted an extension to question the two suspects from Stockport until May 28. However, the 30-year-old man arrested in Sheffield has since been released and is no longer being treated as a suspect in the ongoing probe.

Police officials, including Chief Superintendent Jamie Henderson, District Commander for Sheffield, and Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles, have issued urgent appeals to the public. They have strongly urged anyone with information to come forward, reiterating that 'someone knows who did this' and imploring them 'please do not stay silent'. A CCTV image of a white Audi, believed to be involved in the fatal incident, has been released. Authorities are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw this vehicle or any disturbance near the venue in the early hours of Monday morning.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles underscored the profound devastation caused by gun crime, stating, 'People often say innocent victims were in the wrong place at the wrong time, but Shanice was not in the wrong place at the wrong time – we should all be able to go on nights out and know that we will come home safely.' He emphasized the importance of public cooperation to secure justice for Shanice and to prevent other families from experiencing such heartbreaking loss, highlighting that the reckless actions of others have taken her life.

Shanice Brookes' family has shared an emotional tribute, remembering her as an 'amazing mum' to her young son, who meant the world to her. They described Shanice, who lived in Sheffield, worked for a local charity, and was in the process of completing a university degree, as 'one of a kind' with 'the biggest heart and the kind of energy you could never forget.' Her family fondly recalled her ability to 'light up every room she walked in to with her infectious laugh, beautiful soul and magical aura,' and how she 'made people feel loved, safe and valued simply by being herself.'

A dedicated major incident portal has been established for submitting information. Alternatively, the public can call 101, quoting incident number 135 of May 25.
