Tragedy Strikes Osogbo Mosque: Worshipper's Death Sparks Police Manhunt

The Osun State Police Command has officially confirmed the arrest of four individuals in connection with the death of Hameed Najeem, a worshipper at the Ummu Haani Adigun Memorial Central Mosque in Osogbo, the state capital. Najeem, identified as a car painter, reportedly died following a violent altercation that transpired after the early morning (Fajr) prayer on Friday.
According to accounts from police sources and eyewitnesses, the incident escalated shortly after the congregational prayer concluded at the mosque, located on B.A. Adigun Street, Ayedun Estate, Ogo Oluwa area. An argument reportedly broke out between Najeem and the mosque's Imam during a sermon session. The confrontation became heated, with Najeem reportedly standing up, removing the preacher's stand, and attempting to attack the Imam. As the situation grew tense, the Imam fled the prayer ground, prompting other worshippers to intervene and restrain Najeem.
The struggle then spilled outside the mosque premises. Witnesses described Najeem as being very strong and resisting those attempting to hold him. During this chaos, he was reportedly overpowered by several individuals and subsequently fell into a gutter in front of the mosque. The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the developments, stating that the incident occurred around the mosque after 6 AM, not inside the building itself. The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUNTH) morgue for further examination.
In response to the tragic event, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Gotan, has ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Najeem's death. DSP Ojelabi confirmed that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID) for comprehensive handling, emphasizing that the suspects
