Tom Hardy’s Crime Series Soars as Season 2 Wins Fans’ Praise
Tom Hardy, a Celebrated Actor known for his intense and magnetic screen presence, continues to make a significant impact across diverse television roles, with recent discussions highlighting both the anticipated second season of MobLand and the enduring legacy of his co-created series, Taboo.
His commitment to challenging roles and deep involvement in projects underscore his influence in crime dramas and historical thrillers.
Fans of Guy Ritchie’s crime drama MobLand have received exciting updates regarding its second season, courtesy of Irish Actor Emmett J. Scanlan, who portrays Paul O’Donnell.
During a red carpet appearance, Scanlan described Season 2 as “Season 1 on steroids! It is insane, it’s bananas,” promising an even more intense continuation of the London turf war between the rival Harrigan and Stevenson crime families, which concluded its first season with shifting alliances and precarious power plays.
Scanlan confirmed his character’s return and expressed admiration for his co-stars, including heavyweights like Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, and Tom Hardy, noting that working alongside such performers turns every day into a masterclass.
While a release date and detailed plot specifics remain under wraps, anticipation for the heightened drama is palpable. The first season is currently available on Paramount+.
Concurrently, Tom Hardy’s other significant television venture, Taboo, continues to draw critical acclaim nearly a decade after its premiere.
Co-created by Hardy, his father Edward “Chips” Hardy, and Steven Knight (known for Peaky Blinders),
Taboo is an eight-episode historical thriller set in a grim 1814 London.
The series follows James Keziah Delaney (Hardy), presumed dead for over a decade, as he returns from Africa to claim a strategically vital piece of land.
This inheritance plunges him into conflict with powerful entities including the East India Company, the British Crown, and American interests, leading to a complex web of political manipulation, corporate greed, espionage, and colonial exploitation.
The narrative is morally ambiguous, presenting institutions as compromised and offering no clear heroes, only competing forces vying for power.
Hardy’s performance as James Delaney is central to Taboo’s appeal, showcasing a pure, unfiltered commitment to his craft.
Delaney is portrayed as perpetually coiled and reserved, with his low, gravelly voice and imposing physicality conveying menace even in silence.
Hardy’s involvement extended beyond acting, encompassing producing and world-building, demonstrating his dedication to the series’ integrity.
He emphasized that the ensemble cast and the world around Delaney were equally crucial, explaining his controlled and purposeful performance.
The series features a strong supporting cast, including Oona Chaplin as Delaney’s half-sister Zilpha, Jessie Buckley as Lorna Bow, and Stephen Graham as Atticus, many of whom have seen their careers soar since the show’s release.
While Taboo was renewed for Season 2 in 2017, production has been delayed due to Hardy’s and Steven Knight’s busy schedules.
Despite the wait, both have repeatedly affirmed their commitment to continuing the story, and the series continues to age brilliantly, with its slow and deliberate pacing now appreciated as a meticulously crafted, deeply immersive experience.
