Titan's Roar Echoes Anew! 'Attack on Titan' Returns with Shocking New Project After 3-Year Hiatus

In a move that feels both intimate and deliberate, Wit Studio has announced a new project for the beloved franchise, Attack on Titan. Instead of a grand sequel or spin-off, the focus returns to the essence of what many fans obsess over: the look, the linework, the faces, and the feeling of the original character art. This initiative is particularly significant as it comes through Kyoji Asano, one of the defining visual architects associated with the anime, providing a controlled re-entry point for fans who deeply care about the series' visual legacy.
Wit Studio officially launched the Kyoji Asano Monthly Original Drawing Project, starting April 25. This recurring postcard art line will feature new original illustrations directly from the TV anime. The initial reveal centers on Eren Yeager in his classic Survey Corps design, rendered in stark black-and-white line art that showcases Asano's unmistakable intensity. These exclusive postcards are designed as bonus items for buyers of eligible Attack on Titan merchandise through the I.G & WIT Anime Studio Store, positioning the project as a limited, rolling collector campaign rather than a one-off release. While not a conventional sequel, it is undoubtedly an official new chapter in the ongoing life of the franchise.
This announcement arrives under the shadow of recent criticism faced by Wit Studio regarding allegations of generative AI use for animated opening backgrounds in Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 4. In this context, the Kyoji Asano Monthly Original Drawing Project serves as a quiet yet meaningful reassurance. It explicitly places a respected human artist, hand-drawn character work, and the franchise's specific visual identity back at the forefront. The project will see one new Attack on Titan character illustration released each month, with the first postcard campaign running from April 25 to May 31, 2026, at SHIBUYA TSUTAYA, and from April 28 to May 31, 2026, at the Kyoto I.P. store, reinforcing a commitment to traditional artistry.
