NDC Ignites 2027 Election Buzz: Unveils Governorship Candidates in 28 States, Rebuts Doubts

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has unequivocally refuted recent reports alleging a lack of governorship candidates in 12 states for the upcoming 2027 general elections. In a statement released on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the party denounced these reports as false, misleading, malicious, and attempts to undermine its growing political momentum and national presence.

The NDC firmly asserted that it has meticulously nominated governorship candidates in all 28 states where governorship elections are slated to occur in 2027. Director emphasized, "For the avoidance of doubt, the NDC has duly nominated and has governorship candidates in all the 28 states where governorship elections will take place in 2027." The party characterized itself as a robust national political movement, boasting established structures, viable candidates, and dedicated supporters across all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, thereby rejecting any notion of being a regional entity.

To further substantiate its position and dispel circulating rumors, the NDC specifically identified its governorship candidates in the 12 states that were allegedly misrepresented in the reports. These candidates include: Senator Kabiru Marafa for Zamfara State; Rtd. Rear Admiral Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim for Borno State; Hon. John Odey for Cross River State; Babanta Michael Okon for Akwa Ibom State; Nwofe Boniface for Ebonyi State; Yakubu Solomon Ndam for Plateau State; Ilu-Barde Aliyu for Katsina State; Alhaji Umar Usman Besse for Kebbi State; Jonga Yahaya Gabakau for Yobe State; Dutse Aminu Sani for Jigawa State; Prof. Yahaya Mohammed Sani for Taraba State; and Abdu Sidi Bomi for Niger State.

Beyond addressing the candidate claims, the NDC also issued a strong appeal to media organizations, journalists, bloggers, and content creators. The party urged them to exercise diligence by scrutinizing sources and verifying information rigorously before publication. It stressed that "Journalism thrives on truth, not rumors," and warned that the dissemination of unverified claims could significantly erode public confidence in both the media and the integrity of the democratic process. The NDC reiterated its commitment to issue-based politics, vowing not to be sidetracked by what it termed "sponsored falsehoods."

Positioning itself as a credible alternative to the "old order," the NDC called upon Nigerians to join its political movement. The party outlined its core agenda for the 2027 elections, promising to prioritize crucial national issues such as security, job creation, and accountability if elected, signaling the commencement of its "rescue mission" for the nation.
