Tinubu's Secret Huddle: Six APC Govs Converge in Aso Rock

President Bola Tinubu on Monday received six governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House, Abuja. The governors in attendance included Ahmad Aliyu (Sokoto), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), and Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti). The meeting, held in the President’s office, lasted for almost two hours, though the details of the discussions were not made public at the time of reporting, and the governors declined to speak to journalists afterward.
The closed-door consultations are widely believed to have centered on pressing national issues, particularly the escalating security challenges across the country. This meeting comes amid President Tinubu's intensified focus on national security, marked by a series of high-level engagements with key security stakeholders, including service chiefs, intelligence coordinators, and senior officials from various security agencies. These efforts are a direct response to a worrying upsurge in banditry, kidnappings, and violent crimes that have spread across multiple regions, generating widespread public concern and increasing pressure on the federal government for urgent intervention.
President Tinubu's strategic meetings, often conducted confidentially, aim to comprehensively review ongoing security operations nationwide. Discussions have prioritized enhancing coordination and communication among military, police, and intelligence units to foster a more unified and cohesive response to security threats. Furthermore, the sessions have explored innovative and tactical measures, leveraging intelligence gathering, rapid deployment, and community engagement to dismantle criminal networks and restore order. The President has consistently underscored the paramount importance of safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians, urging the security apparatus to transition from reactive measures to more preventive, intelligence-driven strategies that anticipate threats before they escalate. This renewed approach signals the administration’s commitment to reinforcing national security architecture and improving the operational effectiveness of all agencies involved in combating crime and insurgency.
In related developments, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, expressed optimism that Nigeria's security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes, which have persisted for nearly three decades, will ultimately be overcome. Speaking at a dialogue organized by the National Peace Committee in Abuja, Ribadu described those responsible for these "painful and unnecessary" challenges as "evil" and vowed their defeat. He emphasized that while the nation is enduring tough times, peace would be restored through the sacrifices of those working behind the scenes, often without public acclaim.
The meeting also coincided with ongoing national political consultations and preparations for key party and governance engagements within the ruling All Progressives Congress. The APC has scheduled its national caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings for the following week at the State House, Abuja, further highlighting the political significance of such high-level discussions.
