The All Progressives Congress Grassroots Governance Group (APC G3) has lauded President Bola Tinubu for his presidential directive, which has resulted in a significant reduction in crude oil theft within Nigeria's Niger Delta region. This directive has led to the country achieving its lowest crude oil loss rate in 16 years, a development that APC G3 attributes directly to the President's leadership.

Amechi Chuks Oyema, the national coordinator of APC G3, highlighted that President Tinubu's instruction issued in 2024 to the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, alongside other crucial stakeholders in the oil and gas sector, is now yielding tangible positive outcomes. According to Oyema, the latest statistics released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) confirm that crude oil losses have plummeted to 9,600 barrels per day as of July 2025. This figure marks the lowest level recorded since 2009, when losses were reported at 8,500 barrels per day, demonstrating a substantial improvement in the fight against oil theft.

“The NUPRC report serves as a testament to the current administration's unwavering commitment to curbing crude oil theft in the Niger Delta,” a statement from APC G3 read. “We, in APC G3, attribute this significant achievement to the 2024 presidential directive, which is already demonstrating its positive impact.” The group further appealed to all stakeholders to continue extending their support to the Federal Government, the Armed Forces, and other relevant agencies entrusted with the mandate to combat crude oil theft, emphasizing that a boost in oil production directly translates to an increase in national revenue, thereby facilitating the successful implementation of the country's budget.

The NUPRC report further detailed that the total crude oil losses recorded between January and July 2025 amounted to 2.04 million barrels. This averages out to 9,600 barrels per day over the seven-month period. This represents a marked improvement from previous years when Nigeria's oil industry was severely impacted by high losses stemming from theft and metering inaccuracies, which consequently caused substantial revenue shortfalls for the nation.
