The Truth Is Out: Ryan Coogler's 'X-Files' Reboot Greenlit!

Acclaimed filmmaker Ryan Coogler is officially moving forward with a reboot of The X-Files, marking his next major project following the awards momentum of Sinners.
The series revival has generated strong anticipation among longtime fans of the iconic sci-fi franchise.
Coogler’s recent film Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan, has drawn awards buzz after earning recognition at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards.
The director is widely known for blockbuster successes including Black Panther, Wakanda Forever, and the Creed franchise.
The original X-Files, which starred Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, became a cultural phenomenon in the 1990s for its blend of procedural storytelling and overarching alien conspiracy mythology.
Its “monster of the week” structure helped redefine genre television and still commands a devoted global following.
Speaking about the reboot, Coogler revealed he is “in deep” in the writing process, acknowledging both productive and challenging days.
He also confirmed that original executive producer Vince Gilligan offered guidance during a lengthy Zoom conversation.
Coogler admitted that delivering the draft brings pressure, describing the creative process as both exciting and anxiety-inducing. He keeps detailed notes from Gilligan’s advice, revisiting them frequently as development continues.
Horror will play a central role in the reimagined series. Coogler has promised that if executed correctly, certain episodes will be genuinely terrifying, a return to the show’s darker, unsettling roots.
The reboot aims to satisfy longtime fans while introducing a new generation to the franchise’s investigative paranoia and supernatural tension. Production timelines remain under wraps, but industry observers expect further announcements soon.
Meanwhile, Coogler’s Sinners continues streaming on Max, sustaining the director’s strong creative momentum as he prepares to tackle one of television’s most legendary properties.
