Teacher Unleashes Fury: Blames Parents for Child Misbehavior, Claims They're Never On Their Side

A significant sentiment of frustration is emerging among educators concerning the attitudes and behaviors of modern parents, particularly those from the millennial generation. As the new school term approaches, many teachers are expressing a distinct lack of excitement, directly attributing this to the problematic stance adopted by some parents. A discussion initiated on Reddit brought this issue to light, prompting hundreds of comments from teachers who believe parents are indeed "the problem."
One teacher, possessing five years of experience in education, articulated three key observations regarding the parents at her school. Her first point highlighted a clear correlation: "If you run into a student who has a behaviour issue; you immediately understand why when you meet the parents, nine out of 10 times." Secondly, she noted a profound shift in education culture, stating that educators "can no longer rely on parents to be on their side as a teammate." Instead, she observed that parents tend to become adversarial when faced with a problem concerning their child. Her third observation detailed the inherent leniency of education appeal systems, which renders it "incredibly difficult for any sort of discipline to stick." She described a persistent cycle where "Parents often appeal any judgements applied. Appeal the appeal. Appeal the appeal of the appeal, etc." Despite these significant challenges with parental involvement, this teacher expressed high regard for the students themselves, affectionately calling them "amazing little learners."
Another teacher strongly concurred with these points, adding her own critique about the erosion of professional respect for educators. She argued that "Teaching is one of the few professions where our culture seems to think the professionals do not know best and should not have control." This perspective implies that merely being a parent somehow makes one the "sole expert on every aspect of your kid’s life," leading to parents demanding that teachers adhere strictly to their preferred teaching methods and content. She characterized this as "asinine" and a major impediment to effective teaching.
Further emphasizing these concerns, a third teacher unequivocally stated, "All problems with child behaviour is parenting." This educator explicitly linked every student issue to "bad, lazy parenting," observing that contemporary parents often exhibit "entitled, arrogant attitudes." They concluded with a stark assessment, noting, "We're on the frontlines of seeing how parenting is taking place in 2025, and it ain't pretty folks." Collectively, these teachers' accounts paint a picture of a profession increasingly strained by a perceived lack of support and respect from a segment of the parent community.
