Swift's UK Chart Reign: Superstar Dominates Both Albums & Singles

Taylor Swift has made a remarkable return to the top positions on the U.K.'s Official Albums and Singles Charts. Her album, "The Life of a Showgirl," and its lead single, "The Fate of Ophelia," both reclaimed the No. 1 spots on Friday, November 14. These positions were previously held for three consecutive weeks after their initial release on October 10. This recent triumph marks a fourth week at the summit for both, dethroning Florence + The Machine on the LPs chart and KPop Demon Hunters’ “Golden” on the Singles Chart after a two-week absence.
“The Fate of Ophelia” now stands as Swift’s longest-running No. 1 single since “Anti-Hero” from 2022's "Midnights," which spent six weeks at the top. In contrast, her more recent singles, “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version)” (2023) and “Fortnight” (2024), each spent only a single week at No. 1. “The Life of a Showgirl” is Swift’s 14th U.K. No. 1 album, a feat that makes her the international artist with the most No. 1 albums on the U.K. Albums Charts. She now ties for second overall with The Rolling Stones, both having 14 No. 1s. The all-time top spot is currently shared by The Beatles and Robbie Williams, each with 15 No. 1 albums.
Beyond Swift's achievements, other artists are also making significant moves on the Official Albums Chart. Rosalía achieved a new milestone, becoming the highest-charting Spanish female artist ever with her third LP, "LUX," which soared to No. 4. Her previous album, "MOTOMAMI" (2022), peaked at No. 42. Olivia Dean's "The Art of Loving" climbed two places to No. 2, while Lily Allen’s "West End Girl" dropped slightly to No. 3. Sabrina Carpenter’s "Man’s Best Friend" rounded out an all-female top five at No. 5. New entries included Hayley Williams with her solo project "Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party" at No. 10, and Paul McCartney’s Wings with a new self-titled compilation LP at No. 12.
On the Singles Chart, HUNTR/X’s “Golden”, which had spent a non-consecutive 10 weeks at the top, descended to No. 2. RAYE maintained its position at No. 3 with “WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!” Olivia Dean demonstrated her strong presence with “Man I Need” rising to No. 4, and further securing two more spots in the top 10 with “So Easy (To Fall In Love With Me)” at No. 5 and the Sam Fender collaboration “Rein Me In” climbing to No. 8. This week also highlighted several rising British stars, including Sienna Spiro with “Die On This Hill” at No. 13, Skye Newman with “FU & UF” at No. 16, and EsDeeKid with “Phantom” at No. 17, all marking their presence on the charts.
