Super Eagles Roar: Nigeria Crushes Gabon 4-1 Amidst Heroics and High Stakes!

Nigeria's Super Eagles have advanced to the African World Cup qualifying playoffs final after a decisive 4-1 victory over Gabon in the semi-final. The match at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium began cautiously, ending the first half goalless before bursting into life in the second. Akor Adam struck in the 78th minute before Mario Lemina equalized in the 89th, forcing extra time.

In extra time, Chidera Ejuke restored Nigeria’s lead in the 98th minute. Just four minutes later, Victor Osimhen made it 3-1 before scoring again in the 110th minute. This victory places Nigeria on the brink of the World Cup intercontinental play-offs as they prepare to face DR Congo in Sunday’s final.

Following the triumph, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu congratulated the team, praising their resilience and describing the win as a reflection of Nigeria’s spirit of determination. He applauded the coaching crew and millions of supporters whose energy continues to motivate the national team.

Victor Osimhen addressed his late miss during regular time, admitting he was gutted but expressed gratitude for redeeming himself with two extra-time goals. Captain William Troost-Ekong and Samuel Chukwueze praised his mental strength, noting that such moments are part of football.

Defender Calvin Bassey applauded Benjamin Fredrick’s outstanding performance in shutting down Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Fredrick, on loan from Brentford to FCV Dender, also delivered the assist for Osimhen’s first extra-time goal. Bassey called him “unbelievable” and tipped him as a future pillar of the Super Eagles. With Nigeria now scoring four goals in back-to-back matches, they head confidently into the final showdown against DR Congo.
