Stunning Victory! Cancer Death Rates Plummet by 11% in Historic Drop!

Cancer death rates in the UK have reached a historic low, declining by 11 percent over the past decade. This represents a significant 29 percent drop from the peak in 1989, when 355 out of every 100,000 people were estimated to die from cancer, compared to around 247 per 100,000 currently. These figures, analyzed by Cancer Research UK, highlight decades of crucial scientific breakthroughs and public health initiatives.
Significant reductions have been observed across various cancer types. Ovarian cancer death rates fell by 19 percent between 2012-2014 and 2022-2024, stomach cancer dropped by 34 percent, and lung cancer by 22 percent. Other notable decreases include bowel cancer (6 percent), breast cancer (14 percent), cervical cancer (11 percent), leukaemia (9 percent), oesophageal cancer (12 percent), and prostate cancer (11 percent).
The impact of public health programs is particularly evident in cervical cancer, which has seen a huge 75 percent reduction in death rates since the 1970s. This success is largely attributed to the NHS screening program and the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, introduced in 2008, which has been administered to at least 6.5 million people in the UK.
Despite these overall positive trends, some cancer death rates have unfortunately increased. Gallbladder cancer deaths rose by 29 percent, eye cancer by 26 percent, liver cancer by 14 percent, and kidney cancer by 5 percent over the same period. Rates for thyroid, pancreatic, and melanoma cancers have remained stable.
Dr. Sam Godfrey, science engagement lead at Cancer Research UK, described the drop in death rates as
