Steven Spielberg Unveils ‘Disclosure Day’: First Trailer Promises UFO Thriller

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer and confirmed the title of Steven Spielberg’s highly anticipated new sci-fi feature, “Disclosure Day.” The film marks Spielberg’s return to a genre he has long mastered, following classics such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and War of the Worlds. Promising a blend of suspense, spectacle, and mystery, the movie centers on the global revelation of extraterrestrial life.

The ensemble cast includes Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes. Spielberg co-developed the story with longtime collaborator David Koepp, known for blockbuster screenplays including Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds. The film reunites Spielberg with musical legend John Williams for their 30th collaboration, as well as cinematographer Janusz Kamiński, ensuring cinematic grandeur in both sound and visuals.

The trailer hints at a suspense-filled narrative: Emily Blunt plays a meteorologist who experiences a bizarre live-on-air incident, while Josh O’Connor’s character seeks to expose the existence of aliens to the world. Footage teases mysterious crop circles, intense car chases, erratic animal behavior, and a powerful government agency orchestrating a cover-up, building toward a climactic revelation.

“Disclosure Day” will be Spielberg’s 37th directed feature since his 1964 debut with the partially lost sci-fi film Firelight. His prolific sci-fi portfolio also includes Minority Report, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, and Ready Player One, contributing to a cumulative box office haul exceeding $10 billion worldwide. Spielberg’s accolades include over 23 Academy Award nominations and three wins, including Best Director for Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan. His most recent film, the semi-autobiographical The Fabelmans (2022), earned $45 million and garnered seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.

Previously shrouded as an “untitled Spielberg event film,” the project’s marketing has remained tightly guarded, with teaser billboards appearing in major cities like New York and Los Angeles. Universal Pictures is slated to release “Disclosure Day” in theaters on June 12, 2026, produced by Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger at Amblin Entertainment, promising yet another unforgettable cinematic event.
