Stars Align: Ben Platt & Rachel Zegler Announce 'The Last Five Years' Live Album

Award-winning artists Ben Platt and Rachel Zegler have officially announced the upcoming release of "The Last Five Years (25th Anniversary Live at the London Palladium)," an official live recording of Jason Robert Brown’s beloved musical. The album is scheduled to arrive on April 20, 2026, distributed by Atlantic Records. The exciting news was shared during their bows at the Hollywood Bowl, where the duo surprised the audience by confirming the project directly from the stage. Following this announcement, pre-orders and pre-saves for the album immediately became available, marking a significant event in the musical's ongoing 25th anniversary celebrations.
The highly anticipated live recording was captured during a sold-out concert residency at London’s historic Palladium, which took place from March 24–29, 2026. This special anniversary staging of the intimate two-character musical was both conducted and directed by Jason Robert Brown, the celebrated Tony Award-winning composer behind acclaimed works such as "Parade" and "The Bridges of Madison County." Brown’s direction brought a symphonic scale to the production, enhancing the show’s deeply personal and intimate storytelling.
Since its premiere in 2001, "The Last Five Years" has firmly established itself as a modern staple in musical theater. The narrative intricately explores the complexities of a five-year relationship between two New Yorkers. Its unique structure is a defining feature: Cathy’s story unfolds in reverse chronological order, while Jamie’s progresses forward in time. This distinctive format, combined with its emotionally direct and poignant songwriting, has cultivated a devoted following for the show over two decades.
The newly announced live album aims to immortalize the exceptional dynamic between its two stars. Ben Platt, a Tony, Grammy, and Emmy winner renowned for his leading role in "Dear Evan Hansen," and Rachel Zegler, a Golden Globe-winning actress celebrated for her performances in "West Side Story" and "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes," captivated audiences with their pairing. Their combined star power and artistic synergy were central to the anniversary production’s rapid sell-out of its London run.
The 25th anniversary celebrations are set to culminate with two final concert performances at New York City’s iconic Radio City Music Hall on April 6 and 7, 2026, both of which are also completely sold out. These New York dates will mark the conclusion of this special concert staging, allowing fans on both sides of the Atlantic to experience the critically acclaimed production.
This release further solidifies Atlantic Records’ esteemed legacy in producing major musical theater recordings. The label has been behind many successful albums, including Grammy Award-winning titles such as "Hamilton," "Dear Evan Hansen," and "Jagged Little Pill," all of which earned the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The release of "The Last Five Years (25th Anniversary Live at the London Palladium)" on April 20, 2026, continues this tradition of excellence.
