First Look! 'Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' Unveils Haymitch Featurette!

In celebration of Haymitch Abernathy's birthday and "Happy Reaping Day," a new "Meet Haymitch" featurette was released, offering a first glimpse into the origin story of the character in the upcoming film, "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping." Joseph Zada is set to portray the young Haymitch Abernathy, the victor of the 50th Hunger Games and the central figure of this prequel film, which is slated to hit theaters on November 20.

The featurette provides a captivating preview of Zada's portrayal of Haymitch, showcasing various scenes from his life leading up to and during the Games. These include moments from his actual Reaping Day at sunrise, intense Capitol interviews, and the brutal arena of the Games itself. Interspersed with these narrative clips are behind-the-scenes footage from production and interviews with the cast and crew, who discuss their process of bringing the backstory of this now-iconic character to life.

Woody Harrelson previously played the role of Haymitch in the original "Hunger Games" trilogy film adaptations, delivering what director and producer Francis Lawrence described as "a very iconic portrayal of a character." While Joseph Zada takes on the mantle of Haymitch, he is not the only actor stepping into a role familiar to fans. Elle Fanning will star as Effie Trinket, a character originally brought to life by Elizabeth Banks. The forthcoming fifth film is also set to explore the backstory of Effie and Haymitch’s complex relationship, which was a significant dynamic in the original trilogy.

The film boasts a star-studded cast featuring several new actors in roles of returning characters. Ralph Fiennes is cast as President Snow, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Maya Hawke as Wiress, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee. Additionally, Mckenna Grace joins as Maysilee Donner and Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle, further expanding the ensemble.

Francis Lawrence, who has been at the helm of all "Hunger Games" films since the 2013 sequel "Catching Fire," returns as both director and producer for "Sunrise on the Reaping." He is joined by Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson as producers, with Cameron MacConomy and "Hunger Games" author Suzanne Collins serving as executive producers, ensuring a continuation of the established creative vision for the beloved franchise.
