Shockwave in Country Music: Maddie & Tae Call It Quits Amid Solo Plans

Country music duo Maddie & Tae, consisting of Maddie Marlowe Font and Taylor Dye Kerr, have officially confirmed their professional separation. The announcement, first reported by People magazine and later confirmed by Billboard, signals a significant shift for the award-winning pair, who have been a mainstay in contemporary country music since their teenage years.
Maddie Font plans to embark on a solo career, while Taylor Kerr is turning her focus toward her family. Kerr and her husband, writer-producer Josh Kerr, share two children, daughter Leighton and son Chapel. Font and her husband Jonah are parents to their son, Forrest. Despite the split, both artists emphasized that future collaborations are not entirely ruled out. Font told People, “We’re leaving this so open-ended because, you know, we might make another record one day. We might go do some tour dates one day. But just in this season. It doesn’t feel aligned for us to do it together.”
Kerr described the decision as “such a hard, hard — honestly, heartbreaking — decision,” reflecting on her lifelong dream. “This was the only dream I’ve ever had since I exited the womb. I had a very specific vision of creating music and singing music. When we met at 15, that’s what we set out to do, and we’re both just so grateful that we’ve had the journey that we’ve had. This career has been everything we’ve ever wanted,” she explained.
Over their career, Maddie & Tae achieved chart-topping success, including Billboard Country Airplay No. 1 hits like “Girl in a Country Song” and “Die From a Broken Heart.” Their work has earned consistent recognition, with nominations for the CMA Vocal Duo of the Year each year since 2015. Their discography includes four albums and four EPs, with their most recent project being 2025’s Love & Light, which showcased their signature blend of heartfelt lyrics and modern country sound.
