Prime Video's Epic Thriller Dethrones 'True Detective' on Rotten Tomatoes!

Prime Video's streaming charts, often a dynamic showcase of popular titles, experienced a significant shift in mid-December with the return of The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) and Lucy (Ella Purnell) in Fallout Season 2. For nearly two months, leading up to its epic finale on February 3, Fallout unequivocally dominated the platform, leaving competitors in its wake. However, with the conclusion of Fallout, a new opportunity arose for another series to claim the top spot, an opportunity swiftly seized by Cross.
The adaptation of James Patterson's extensive novel series proved to be a substantial hit upon its initial arrival in 2024, securing an expected second season. This new season is effectively building upon the success of its predecessor by transitioning to a weekly episodic release schedule, although it commenced with a significant launch of its opening three episodes simultaneously. Aldis Hodge returns as the irresistibly charming and quick-witted detective, Alex Cross, reportedly better than ever. He is joined by an exciting new cast member, Matthew Lillard, known for his role in Five Nights at Freddy's.
Early responses to Cross Season 2 on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes indicate a strong critical reception, with some drawing comparisons to the acclaimed series True Detective. The second season currently boasts a near-perfect 92% score based on 12 reviews, marking a considerable improvement over Season 1's still impressive 76%. Beyond Hodge and Lillard, the cast for Season 2 also includes Isaiah Mustafa, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, Juanita Jennings, and Caleb Elijah.
A synopsis for the new season reveals, "In Season Two, Cross is in pursuit of a ruthless vigilante who is hunting down corrupt billionaire magnates." While the initial Rotten Tomatoes score is highly promising, it is acknowledged that this could change as more reviews are submitted. One review that presents a more nuanced perspective is Nate Richard's for Collider, which assigned the season a 6/10. Richard commented that "Season 2 is entertainingly paced, but outside its lead, nothing about it allows it to stand out from Prime Video's similar offerings." Despite this, Richard expressed a desire for "more Cross in the future, even if it's largely more of Hodge's Alex Cross."
Cross is available for streaming on Prime Video. For further updates, audiences are encouraged to stay tuned to Collider.
