Political Storm: Tonse Alliance Leader Brian Mundubile Arrested on Cyber-Related Charges!

Brian Mundubile, a prominent figure and president of the Tonse Alliance, was formally arrested and charged on March 19, 2026, in Lusaka, for aiding, abetting, and counselling the commission of hate speech. The Zambia Police Service, through its Deputy Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha, confirmed the charge under Section 55 as read with Section 65 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 2 of 2021. Mundubile, aged 55, has since been released on police bond and is expected to appear in court soon.

Details surrounding his apprehension emerged from various sources, including Tonse Alliance presidential spokesperson George Chisanga. Mundubile was reportedly stopped from travelling for a business engagement in South Africa at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport. Chisanga stated that Mundubile was removed from the passenger list prior to departure and that his lawyers were initially denied access to him. He was held for approximately four hours and subjected to questioning regarding the purpose of his trip and individuals he intended to meet, including Chief Mwata Kazembe and other prominent figures.

According to the Police, the core of the accusation stems from activities alleged to have occurred between February 8, 2023, and January 31, 2025. During this period, Mundubile, reportedly acting with another known individual, is suspected of aiding and counselling the operation of a Facebook page named “Munyaule Zambia.” He is alleged to have provided both content and financial support to Mr. Chanda Nonde, who has been identified as the administrator of the said page. The "Munyaule Zambia" page is accused of consistently publishing malicious and hateful content targeting various individuals over a sustained period.

The timeline of events indicates that the suspect was initially warned and cautioned in June 2025 before his eventual arrest yesterday, March 19, 2026. The Zambia Police Service has reiterated its unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and actively combating all cyber-related offences, specifically emphasizing the fight against the spread of hate speech within the country.
