Political Earthquake: 6 Rivers PDP Lawmakers Defect to APC!

The political landscape within Nigeria's House of Representatives experienced significant realignment on Tuesday as six lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officially announced their defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This event was witnessed by prominent APC national officers, including the Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Ali Dalori, and the National Vice Chairman (South-south), Hon. Victor Giadom, alongside other party officials who were present in the House.
The group of defectors included Hon. Robinson Dekor, Hon. Bob Solomon, Hon. Hart Cyril, Hon. Victor Obuzor, Hon. Blessing Amadi, and Hon. Felix Uche. Their individual letters, which were formally read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during the session, detailed their reasons for crossing over. The lawmakers cited "irreconcilable differences" and persistent internal divisions within their former party, the PDP, as primary motivations. Additionally, they expressed a clear desire to provide their support for President Bola Tinubu's administration, thereby aligning themselves with the objectives of the APC.
These defections are part of a broader trend of political shifts that have recently occurred. They closely follow the high-profile move of Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, who recently left the PDP to join the APC. This preceding defection by a state governor provided a significant context for the legislative changes now taking place.
Further emphasizing this period of political restructuring, just last week, four other members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State also announced their defection to the APC. These included Hon. Awaji Inombek (formerly of PDP), Hon. Boma Goodhead (formerly of PDP), Hon. Manuchim Umezurike (formerly of Labour Party), and Hon. Boniface Emerengwa (formerly of PDP). These cumulative movements indicate a notable consolidation of political power and influence around the All Progressives Congress.
