Olivia Rodrigo Shocks Fans With Surprise Debut Alongside The Cure's Robert Smith!

Olivia Rodrigo unveiled a new song, “What’s Wrong With Me,” featuring Robert Smith of The Cure, during her surprise live performance at Primavera Sound 2026 in Barcelona, Spain. The track is part of the second act of her highly anticipated new album, titled *You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love*, which is set to be released on Friday, June 12, via Geffen Records. This collaboration marks Rodrigo’s first time featuring another artist on an album track.
Rodrigo expressed immense excitement about the duet, telling the crowd at Parc del Forum’s Occident Stage, “I can’t believe this song exists with the person that it exists with. I’m just so f—ing over the moon.” After performing with Smith, she embraced him, stating, “I feel like I’m gonna cry … I can’t believe that that’s a thing that happened in the real world and not just a figment of my imagination.”
The lyrics of “What’s Wrong With Me” delve into Rodrigo’s emotional struggles, with her singing, “I’m not feeling like myself, and nothing ever seems to help.” The pre-chorus continues, “Went to the doctor and she said I was fine/ But every movie that I’ve seen makes me cry/ It’s like somebody put a weight on my chest/ I should talk to a friend, but I can’t get out of bed/ My head is spinning and my stomach is sick/ Say I’m in love, so it’s hard to admit/ I can’t eat, I can’t sleep/ I think you’re what’s wrong with me.” Robert Smith joins in the second verse, echoing her sentiments with the line, “Head just keeps on pounding with the simple thought/ ‘What if this isn’t what I want?'” Their vocals then layer over the chorus, bridge, and outro of the song.
The surprise performance at Primavera Sound was announced by Rodrigo just hours before the show via an Instagram Story. Rodrigo and Smith have previously shared the stage, notably at Glastonbury last year, where they performed The Cure’s “Friday I’m In Love” and “Just Like Heaven” together. Rodrigo’s admiration for Smith is also evident in her music, as she playfully references “Just Like Heaven” in the opening verse of “Drop Dead,” the lead track from her new album, which debuted as a Billboard Hot 100 No. 1.
Beyond the premiere of “What’s Wrong With Me,” Rodrigo’s Primavera Sound set included performances of her recent singles “Drop Dead” and “The Cure,” as well as hits from her previous albums, *Sour* and *Guts*. The festival itself was in its third day, having recovered from severe weather conditions on opening night that led to the cancellation of many Thursday performances, including those by Doja Cat and Massive Attack. Day two saw a return to normal, with artists like The Cure, Skrillex, and PinkPantheress performing as scheduled.
Looking ahead, Rodrigo is preparing for her sold-out Unraveled Tour, kicking off in September in Hartford, Conn. The tour will span North America and Europe in support of her new music. The tour’s name, “Unraveled Tour,” references a lyric from her latest single, “The Cure,” which achieved No. 1 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart and No. 5 on the Hot 100 in its debut week.
