Tech entrepreneur Jack Dorsey has unveiled a new group chat platform called Buzz, specifically designed to lessen teams' dependence on centralized platforms such as Slack. This initiative marks the latest advancement in the Bitcoin maximalist's persistent drive toward decentralization. Dorsey, a co-founder of Block, announced on X that Buzz is intended for "teams of people and agents of all sizes," emphasizing its "model-agnostic, decentralized, self-sovereign, and open source" nature.

Described on its website as "A new native workspace for human and agent teams," Buzz offers users a unified space to "chat with teammates and specialized agents," seamlessly transitioning into activities like planning, project management, coding, and handling PRs. According to a statement from its parent company, Block, Buzz is built upon the decentralized social networking Nostr protocol. Block further noted that "The interface will feel familiar to anyone who's used a modern team communication tool," aiming for an intuitive user experience despite its decentralized foundation.

Bradley Axen, head of AI capabilities at Block, articulated the philosophy behind Buzz, stating, "Every company is going to need a place where humans and agents work together. The question is whether that place is proprietary or open. We built Buzz because we believe it should be open." This sentiment underscores Dorsey's broader vision of 'decentralizing everything.'

Dorsey, whose firm Block encompasses Square and Cash App, has consistently advocated for decentralized solutions, primarily through Bitcoin. After stepping down from Twitter in 2021, he dedicated his efforts to payments and Bitcoin adoption, expressing his desire for Bitcoin to become the global, "everyday money" and famously referring to Satoshi Nakamoto's Bitcoin white paper as "poetry." His commitment to Bitcoin is evident in Cash App, which facilitates Bitcoin transactions, and Square's point-of-sale terminals, which accept the cryptocurrency via the Lightning Network. Furthermore, Block introduced a Bitcoin mining rig with swappable parts last year, designed to help miners reduce repair and replacement costs.
