Nolan's Untold History: The Blockbuster Greek Epic He Nearly Directed!

Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan is set to finally realize his long-standing ambition of directing a Greek epic with his upcoming film, 'The Odyssey'. This highly anticipated project comes over two decades after Nolan was initially slated to direct another major ancient myth film, 'Troy'.
More than twenty years ago, Warner Bros. first hired Nolan to helm 'Troy', the 2004 swords-and-sandals blockbuster that ultimately starred Brad Pitt and was directed by Wolfgang Petersen. Nolan confirmed in an interview with Empire that Petersen, who had developed the project, reclaimed it after the studio decided not to proceed with his planned superhero movie, 'Batman vs. Superman'. Despite the change, Nolan expressed his deep interest in exploring the world of 'Troy', particularly specific images and how he envisioned handling elements like the Trojan Horse, indicating the idea of a Greek epic had lingered in his mind.
At the time, Nolan had just transitioned into studio filmmaking with 'Insomnia' (2002), a murder-mystery remake featuring Al Pacino and Robin Williams.
