Netflix Axes Beloved Cult Sci-Fi Revival, Crushing Fan Hopes

Fans of the Quantum Leap reboot have been dealt disappointing news: the series will depart Netflix on February 15, once again leaving it without a stable streaming home. This marks another setback for the reboot, which has faced persistent availability challenges since its premiere.
Tumultuous History of the Reboot
The current situation follows a rocky trajectory for the series. After NBC canceled the reboot in April 2024, Peacock quietly removed both the new series and the original classic. Netflix provided temporary relief by licensing the reboot in August, but that reprieve will soon end, leaving viewers to rely on digital storefronts for access.
Premiered in 2022, the reboot introduced Dr. Ben Song (Raymond Lee) as the new leaper, continuing the story 30 years after the original series. Despite not featuring Scott Bakula as Dr. Sam Beckett, the fresh take initially resonated with fans, though NBC’s frequent time-slot changes ultimately contributed to declining viewership.
Synopsis and Streaming Outlook
In the series, Dr. Ben Song, lead physicist of the secret Quantum Leap time-travel program, makes an unauthorized leap into the past. Awaking in a different body with fragmented memories, he is guided by Addison, a holographic colleague. Ben must correct anomalies in his host’s life to leap again, as his team races to understand his situation and bring him home.
With Netflix’s license ending on February 15, the reboot’s future streaming availability remains uncertain. Viewers have just a few weeks to catch the show before it becomes exclusive to digital storefronts.
Other high-profile Netflix departures in the coming month include The Lazarus Project, Prison Break (January 29), Extant, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Warrior.
