APC Demands Probe of Osun's N130bn Airport Project, Raises Due Process Concerns
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State is demanding an investigation into an alleged N130 billion airport project in Governor Ademola Adeleke’s hometown of Ede. The party has raised serious concerns regarding the project's cost, contract award transparency, and the suitability of appointed contractors, calling on anti-corruption agencies for accountability. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has called for an investigation into the N130 billion airport project in Ede, Governor Ademola Adeleke's hometown, alleging irregularities in its cost and procurement process.
The opposition party questioned the project's reported increase from an initial estimate of about N100 billion to N130 billion, arguing that the Adeleke administration has failed to provide adequate justification for the upward review. The APC is urging anti-corruption agencies and relevant authorities to scrutinise the project to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
Speaking on behalf of the party, the Head of Media and Publicity Committee of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council, Remi Omowaiye, alleged that the company handling the airport project was neither properly registered nor qualified for such specialised infrastructure development.
He further claimed that contracts for other major projects, including road construction and a flyover, were awarded to firms whose registered business activities do not correspond with the nature of the projects awarded to them. According to the APC, these developments raise serious concerns about due process and prudent financial management.
The opposition party also questioned the economic rationale for constructing a new airport in Osun State, noting that neighbouring states are still struggling to make their airports commercially viable.
Omowaiye criticised the Adeleke administration for abandoning an airport project initiated by the previous government in favour of a new one in Ede, insisting that the state should prioritise more pressing developmental needs. The APC maintained that a thorough investigation is necessary to determine whether due process was followed and to safeguard public resources.
