Musician's Mad Dash: The Snuts' Jack Cochrane Rushes from World Cup to TRNSMT Stage

The Snuts frontman Jack Cochrane is set to make a dramatic dash from cheering on Scotland at the World Cup in the US to grace the TRNSMT main stage in Glasgow. With only a 24-hour window between Scotland’s second group match against Morocco and The Snuts’ festival slot on Saturday, June 20, Jack will swap his Tartan Army duties for a swift flight back to Scotland. Scotland is scheduled to face the African champions at 11 pm UK time the night before the festival.
Jack shared his enthusiasm, stating that Scotland’s World Cup journey has been a significant backdrop during late nights in the studio and has provided incredible moments over the past year. He plans to attend the Haiti game on June 14 before racing from Boston to Glasgow post-game two to perform on the TRNSMT main stage. As a Scottish band, The Snuts don't often perform in their home country, so they always strive to make these occasions special, looking forward to the typically sunny weather and the unique, 'lawless' party atmosphere of Scottish festivals like TRNSMT, which they grew up attending.
The Snuts’ appearance at the Glasgow Green extravaganza, running from June 19-21, marks their first in two years. The indie quartet from Whitburn, West Lothian, comprising Jack on vocals and guitar, Joe McGillveray on guitar, bassist Callum Wilson, and drummer Jordan Mackay, has achieved remarkable success with their initial three albums. Their 2021 debut, W.L., notably reached No.1 in the UK charts, making them the first Scottish band in 14 years to achieve this feat with a debut album.
After five years of relentless touring, the band took a necessary break in 2024 to reconnect with their small-town roots and start families. This period of reflection followed an intense whirlwind of activity that saw them constantly making music in various transient locations. Jack acknowledged the significant pressure on artists to be perpetually active, releasing new content, and performing, which eventually brought them close to a burnout situation, prompting a reevaluation of their enjoyment and artistic process.
Part of regaining control over their lives and careers involved a pivotal decision in 2023: leaving their former label to establish their own independent studio, Happy Artist Records. Jack emphasized that this move allowed them to be in control and was a healthy decision for them as artists, especially as some members had started families and desired to be closer to home. They credit their dedicated fanbase for supporting them through this transition, offering patience that enabled them to create and pursue their vision.
Jack believes that this return to their roots is profoundly influencing The Snuts’ new music, infusing it with more personal and hard-hitting themes. Their upcoming fourth album and recent singles, 'Motherlands' and 'Summer Rain,' explore subjects such as losing loved ones, rekindling childhood friendships, the experience of becoming a parent, and mental health. The band, known for genre-switching with each album, aims for authenticity and honesty in their current work, allowing their music to reflect their lives and current realities. Jack highlighted that in an era of rapid consumption where music often feels disposable, it is crucial for them to deliver genuine narratives derived from lived experiences rather than just touring anecdotes.
Despite the new material, The Snuts, known as live specialists, are committed to electrifying the TRNSMT main stage with their beloved anthems. They feel a particular obligation to perform their 2021 hit 'Glasgow' in Glasgow, a song that consistently resonates with fans. Jack noted that while he might sometimes tire of playing it, the song creates significant moments for the audience, and it’s these live moments that truly fuel his passion for performing.
