Ghana's Future at Stake: Aseidu Nketia Demands Youth Investment for Prosperity
NDC National Chairman Johnson Aseidu Nketia has urged Ghana to invest more in its youthful population, asserting that the country's people, not natural resources, are its greatest asset. On World Population Day, he highlighted the demographic advantage of Ghana's youth and called for significant investments in education, digital skills, and entrepreneurship to drive national development.
Johnson Aseidu Nketia, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a compelling call for Ghana to significantly increase its national investment in its youthful population. Speaking via a message on his Facebook page to commemorate this year's World Population Day, Mr. Nketia asserted that Ghana's true wealth does not lie in its abundant natural resources, but rather in its people. He characterized Ghana's growing population, particularly its youth, as a crucial strategic asset capable of driving sustainable economic growth and comprehensive national development, provided it receives adequate nurturing and investment.
Mr. Nketia highlighted Ghana's favorable demographic outlook, noting projections that the country's population will reach 34.4 million by 2026, with approximately 12.6 million young people aged between 15 and 35. He described this significant youthful demographic as one of Africa's most substantial advantages, holding the potential to transform the nation's fortunes through innovation, entrepreneurship, and productive enterprise. Challenging conventional perceptions, he argued that Ghana's young people should be viewed not as a burden or a social challenge, but as the nation's greatest competitive strength, embodying roles as innovators, entrepreneurs, farmers, creators, engineers, teachers, and future leaders.
The veteran politician further contended that the fundamental issue confronting Ghana is not the sheer size of its youthful population, but rather the adequacy of investments being made to equip these young individuals with the essential skills and opportunities required to thrive in an increasingly dynamic global economy. He strongly advocated for sustained investment in several key areas, including quality education, digital literacy, entrepreneurship, robust employment creation initiatives, and comprehensive leadership development programs. These areas, he emphasized, are indispensable pillars for achieving long-term national progress and prosperity.
Concluding his message, the NDC Chairman underscored that nations prioritizing the development and empowerment of their youth are inherently better positioned to achieve inclusive economic growth, foster innovation, and maintain social stability. He urged for a steadfast, long-term national commitment to youth empowerment, encapsulated by his statement: "A nation that invests in its youth invests in lasting prosperity."
