Music Maestro Mayhem: Burna Boy's Clash with DJ Tunez Rocks Nigerian Entertainment

Nigerian musician Burna Boy and his team reportedly launched a physical assault on DJ Tunez at Obi’s House, a popular weekly Afrobeats event in Lagos, on Monday. DAILY POST reported that DJ Tunez was attacked for allegedly failing to play Burna Boy’s music. Another account suggested the assault occurred because DJ Tunez was playing Wizkid’s songs and did not play Burna Boy's music. Viral videos circulating on social media showed DJ Tunez being beaten and kicked to the ground during the incident, sparking widespread reactions online.
In response to the physical attack, Burna Boy publicly mocked DJ Tunez in a trending video. While dancing to the song ‘Money Constant,’ Burna Boy altered a lyric from “Ogbafia dey my side” to “Ogbafia dey for ground,” dramatically falling to the ground to mimic DJ Tunez’s experience during the fight.
Following the incident, the Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) officially announced on Wednesday a temporary ban on all Burna Boy’s music from its members’ playlists. In an official statement posted on Instagram, the NDJ condemned hate in the music industry and stated that Burna Boy’s music would be delisted pending the outcome of their investigation into the assault on DJ Tunez. The association also urged DJs across Nigeria to be vigilant and respectful to all artists at their events.
The incident also drew a strong reaction from Afrobeat star Wizkid, who blasted Burna Boy for attacking DJ Tunez, his official DJ. Wizkid condemned Burna Boy for fighting DJ Tunez with a team of ten men, tagging him a “fool.” Wizkid further accused Burna Boy of dancing with singer Diddy’s towel, writing on X: “Pussy nigga Jump a dj with 10 man carry diddy towel Dey dance. I never see a fool like this diddy babe for my life”. This comment brought back previous reports by DAILY POST regarding allegations of a same-sex relationship between Burna Boy and the embattled American rapper Diddy, an allegation Burna Boy had denied, stating their relationship was strictly professional. Diddy himself was arrested in 2024 and subsequently sentenced to prison on multiple sexual assault charges.
