Music Icon Linda Perry Honored with Prestigious Ivor Novello Songwriting Prize

Renowned musician and songwriter Linda Perry is to be honoured with the Special International Award at The Ivors with Amazon Music 2026.

The special Ivor Novello Award celebrates an international songwriter whose outstanding career has significantly influenced the UK music industry.

All the winners will be revealed at The Ivors with Amazon Music at Grosvenor House in London on May 21.

“Across more than three decades, Perry has established herself as one of the most distinctive and influential songwriters of her generation, a singular creative force behind a catalogue of era-defining songs,” said a statement from The Ivors Academy.

Perry is known for her work as primary songwriter, singer and guitarist for 4 Non Blondes, where she wrote international hit What’s Up?, alongside Spaceman, Dear Mr. President and Pleasantly Blue.

She also working extensively with other artists, like Pink, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Alicia Keys, Celine Dion, Miley Cyrus, Adele, Ariana Grande and more.

4 Non Blondes’ debut album, Bigger, Better, Faster, More!, spent more than a year on the US chart after its release in 1992.

What’s Up? has surpassed one billion streams and the video is currently closing in on two billion views.

Her exceptional talent has also been acknowledged by the Grammy Awards, where three of her five nominations to date have been specifically in songwriting categories.

Perry received two nominations for Song of the Year, first for her work on Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful,” and later for co-writing the impactful Alicia Keys-Brandi Carlile collaboration “A Beautiful Noise.”

Additionally, she was nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media for co-writing Dolly Parton’s “Girl in the Movies,” further cementing her status as a top-tier songwriter for various mediums.

Expressing her gratitude for the upcoming honor, Linda Perry stated, “It’s an honor to be recognized for my songwriting contributions at the 71st Ivor Novello Awards. So many incredible artists have been celebrated, and I am humbled to be standing alongside them.”

The recipients of these esteemed prizes are meticulously chosen by a distinguished panel comprising experienced songwriters and composers drawn from the association’s membership.

In related news, the academy had previously confirmed on April 29 that Rosalía would be awarded the international songwriter of the year honor, celebrating her 2025 LP, LUX.

This acclaimed album features the Catalonian-born artist singing in thirteen languages and masterfully fuses influences from both classical and pop music genres.

Earlier in March, the nominations for the awards were announced, with a notable lineup of artists leading with the most nods, including Olivia Dean, Lily Allen, Kae Tempest, and Wolf Alice.
