Akpabio Reveals How Wife Recovered From Six-Month Coma After Surgery in Germany

Nigeria's Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, recently shared a deeply personal account of his wife, Unoma Akpabio's, miraculous recovery from a six-month coma.

The incident, where Mrs. Akpabio was declared 98 percent dead after a failed surgery at a German hospital, is attributed by her husband to the divine intercession of Italian Catholic priest, Pio Pietrelcina, widely known as Padre Pio.

According to Mr. Akpabio, his wife underwent a critical operation that went awry, leading to her prolonged comatose state.

Facing immense despair, he recounted how he refused to lose hope and, instead of considering the removal of life support, turned to spiritual solace.

He used a photograph of Padre Pio to make the sign of the cross on his ailing wife while crying out to Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, and Padre Pio for divine healing and intervention.

Remarkably, following these fervent prayers, Unoma Akpabio miraculously regained consciousness. The hospital staff, according to Mr. Akpabio, were left without a medical explanation for her unexpected recovery from a coma that had nearly claimed her life.

He further revealed that after her discharge, it took his wife three months to fully recover her memory and recognize him and their children, highlighting the severity of her condition and the profound nature of her healing.

This life-altering experience has had a lasting impact on the Akpabio family. In a profound gesture of gratitude and reverence for the priest, they honoured Padre Pio by giving their son his baptismal name.

Furthermore, the family established the PIO Football Academy. This is a large institution dedicated to providing training and scholarships to underprivileged children from the age of nine up to university level, all in memory of Padre Pio and his perceived intercessory powers.

Mr. Akpabio's revelation came during his tenth visit to the revered prayer ground of St. Padre Pio in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy. During his visit, the Senate President disclosed that the primary purpose of his delegation was to seek divine intervention for Nigeria.

He explained that they had travelled to the holy site to offer prayers for a peaceful general election in 2027 and to implore God for an end to the pervasive challenges of banditry and terrorism plaguing the nation.

Expressing his deep conviction, Mr. Akpabio told St Padre PIO TV/Radio in Italy that he was departing the holy ground feeling "fulfilled" after presenting their intentions.

He also conveyed his admiration for the meticulous maintenance of the site, acknowledging its spiritual significance, particularly for adherents and followers who believe in Padre Pio's powerful intercessions.
