Michael Jackson's Six-Decade Chart Dominance Stuns Music World!

Michael Jackson's iconic hit "Thriller" has made a powerful resurgence on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, striking like a beast by rising from No. 32 to No. 10 on the chart dated November 15. This remarkable achievement grants the late King of Pop an unprecedented chart longevity record, as the song, which originally peaked at No. 4 on the Hot 100 in 1984, continues to captivate audiences decades after its initial release.
With this latest top 10 entry, Michael Jackson, who passed away in 2009, officially becomes the first artist in history to rank in the top 10 across six distinct decades. His impressive span covers the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and now the 2020s. This milestone surpasses the previous record held by Andy Williams, who died in 2012 and whose career included top 10 placements in five decades (1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 2010s, and 2020s), extended by the enduring popularity of "It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" since 2018.
Jackson’s solo career first saw him reach the Hot 100’s top 10 in November 1971 with his debut solo single, "Got To Be There." Throughout his illustrious career, Jackson amassed an incredible 30 top 10 hits, including 13 No. 1s. Prior to "Thriller's" recent ascent, his last appearance in the top 10 was as a featured artist on Drake’s "Don’t Matter to Me" in 2018. Furthermore, looking back to his early career, Jackson, at just 11 years old, first entered the Hot 100’s top 10 with the Jackson 5's breakthrough hit "I Want You Back," which debuted on the last chart of the 1960s, dated December 27, 1969.
The renewed surge in popularity for "Thriller" is largely attributed to the Halloween period, which coincided with the October 31-November 6 tracking week. During this time, the song garnered 14 million official streams in the United States, marking a significant 57% increase week-over-week. Additionally, it drew 9.3 million in radio airplay audience, a substantial 124% rise, and sold 3,000 units, up 1%, according to Luminate data.
Beyond its chart re-entry and new longevity record, "Thriller" has also achieved another personal best for Jackson. It is now his sole longest-charting Hot 100 hit, having spent 26 weeks on the chart. This surpasses two other classics from his groundbreaking "Thriller" album, "Billie Jean" and "Beat It," which each spent 25 weeks on the chart beginning in 1983, solidifying "Thriller's" enduring legacy.
