Michael Jackson Biopic Trailer Breaks Records with 116 Million Views in 24 Hours

The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, titled Michael, has already made history long before its official release. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film’s teaser trailer achieved record-breaking success, amassing an astonishing 116.2 million views within just 24 hours. According to analytics firm WaveMetrix, this makes it the most-viewed music biopic trailer ever and the largest trailer launch in Lionsgate history, surpassing major hits like Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (96.1 million views) and Bob Marley: One Love (60.1 million views).
Scheduled for theatrical release on April 24, 2026, Michael stars Jaafar Jackson, nephew of the late King of Pop, in the lead role. The film promises to capture both the spectacular performances and the private moments of Jackson’s life, giving audiences an intimate look at the man behind the legend. Expressing his excitement, Jaafar wrote on Instagram, “I’m humbled and honored to bring my Uncle Michael’s story to life. To all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon.”
Producer Graham King, best known for his work on Bohemian Rhapsody, revealed to Variety that casting Jaafar was the result of an extensive global search. “It was something so powerful,” King said, “that even after looking worldwide, it was clear he’s the only person to take on this role.” The dedication to authenticity was evident, with King adding that Jaafar “personifies the spirit and personality of Michael.”
Adding a touch of legacy, Michael Jackson’s mother, Katherine Jackson, publicly praised the casting choice, telling Variety that “Jaafar embodies my son. It’s wonderful to see him carry on the Jackson legacy of entertainers and performers.” The biopic also features a stellar supporting cast, including Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Laura Harrier, and Miles Teller, while young actor Juliano Krue Valdi will portray the pop icon’s early years.
With record-breaking anticipation and an emotionally charged narrative, Michael is set to become one of the most talked-about films of 2026. As Lionsgate’s biggest trailer debut ever, the project underscores how the legend of Michael Jackson continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
